In English, very very important: an amazing day at Maraca

It's been a long time since this blog last blogged. Working from 2pm to 2am every day during the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro has made things difficult. But this blog couldn't let this moment go. This Thursday, 26 July 2007, Brazil beat USA 5-0 to win the gold medal in the women's football at a packed Maracanã Stadium (Maraca, as we call it down here). But Marta & co. have won much more than that. This blog strongly recommends this article. It was written by an American journalist, about a football/soccer match in Brazil, and it's perfect to give the perspective of what happened this Thursday. This blog was also interviewed by Sveriges Radio (Radiosporten Fotboll) and tried to make people understand a bit what represented almost 70,000 fans at Maracanã and many millions around the country watching a women's football match. Two years ago, when den här bloggen worked for a major TV station in Brazil, the biggest in Latin America, one famous local football expert/pundit said: "Women's football isn't attractive. Neither the sport nor the players. And it'll never be". I wonder where he was around 12pm on Thursday, 26 July 2007.
